Yes, it’s a win to have the officers who killed George Floyd behind bars even though one of them is out on bail right now.

The police officers that killed Breonna Taylor are still free and on the payroll. He paused and then sighed before responding. We wanted to know if Lamon felt true winds of change in the air. It does appear that people who aren’t black are ready to be educated and willing to become an ally in the fight. There does appear to be a movement on the horizon. Since the death of George Floyd, it feels (sort of, maybe, hopefully) like things will be different.

I feel the same pain they felt just because I am a black male.” But at the same time, because I am black, I still feel and live with the same fear that those who were murdered must have felt or those who have been pulled over. So, can I sit here and say that I’ve been pulled over by a cop, snatched out of my car, handcuffed and it be completely unjustified. Whether you have faced it head-on or not, every black man knows when they get pulled over by a cop they feel danger. We asked Lamon how does it feel to him as a black man. Now it’s black people (men and women.) We know how we feel going about our daily lives knowing at any second, we too (or our loved ones) can become a hashtag. We are only just learning more about them. There was a time not too long ago that the primary focus was on black men being killed at the hands of the police. And it’s a talk that I hope that my kids won’t need to have with their kids one day.” Amen. But the conversation with the kids is not an easy one. And there is so much that needs to be done to help us. At this point right now, it feels like all we can do is pray for our people that we don’t get hurt. But realistically your life is on the line regardless if your hands are up and regardless if you resist arrest or not.

And if you make sure not to resist arrest because your life’s on the line. It is one thing if the cop pulls you over and you make sure you keep your hands up.

And it’s not easy telling your child that because of your skin color you can be targeted by and killed by a police officer even if you have your hands up. “As we know these are conversations that all black people have to have with their kids. This only adds to the fear and frustration. You teach them all of the “do’s and dont’s” and then you see how George Floyd was killed and all that goes out the window. You tell your kids things like put your hands up, don’t be adversarial, don’t reach for anything, etc. Having these conversations is difficult, scary, and painful.

There is the sex talk and the other talk, how to handle yourself when encountering law enforcement. However, when you are a black parent in America there are two TALKS you must have with your kids. When you hear parents talk about having THE TALK with their kids it is usually the discussion about sex. For those who attended know why and if you weren’t there you can pretty much guess. Though he didn’t remember much once he closed out his IG live. It was a time to be had! Lamon told us he had a great time. Lamon celebrated a quarantine birthday on April 9 and he blessed us by inviting the soap world to his virtual party. We were happy to hear at the onset that Lamon and his family are safe and well in these unprecedented and tumultuous times. Rayshard Brooks was killed by the Atlanta, GA police this past weekend.

Our conversation with him was frank, insightful, enlightening, realistic, and hopeful. It is worth noting that we spoke to Lamon prior to the killing of yet another black man by police officers. We reached out to Lamon and asked to interview him to talk about the state of the country right now in relation to race, being black in America, being a black parent in America, and being a black actor in daytime. We have seen several members of the soap community protesting and being supportive of the cause of true racial equality. Lamon has also been very vocal about racial injustice.

Lamon, like millions of others across the globe, took to the streets in protest of police brutality and the killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. Recently, we saw pictures of Lamon Archey (Eli Grant, Days of our Lives) on social media participating in the protests in L.A. We are also proud members of the soap opera community and big fans of the genre. It’s challenging to discover your footing in this new normal. We at We Are Entertainment News report entertainment news but we don’t live in a bubble (nor do we want to.) We like everyone else have been putting on a brave face as we attempt to keep our footing and balance after being on the receiving end of this one-two punch the world has delivered COVID-19 and social unrest.
